The Times Newspaper reported a US official as saying that the United States plans to fill the vacuum left by Britain when it withdraws all its troops from southern Iraq. The Newspaper noted that the US will deploy around 3000 soldiers in southern Iraq and will establish a Brigade or Division center command in Basra air base or in the major logistic camp in Al Shaiba in southern the city that includes one of Iraq’s major oil refineries. The Newspaper cited the same source as saying that most US troops remained in Basra and southern Iraq after the end of military operations while thousands of US trainers are working with Iraqi Forces in Basra noting that the US has established an air base in Dhi Qar Province and deployed troops in Al Nasiriya as it is known that UK troops plan to withdraw from Iraq.
