Hi fellow users. I found some great info. on the allvoices blog about the purpose of the map on the site and how to use it. You can find a demo video on the allvoices blog at http://allvoices.wor
There are 3 purposes of the map. First, to show the global nature of allvoices and how its community is comprised of citizens reporting from all over the world. Second, it allows users to see where in the world news is currently being reported via a world map view (map view can be changed). Third, the map allows you to navigate around the world to find the news you want (i.e. you can double click on any location and the page will load news from that location).
The numbered circles on the map show the locations of the top news reports for the view you've chosen (in order of how they appear on the home page). If you click one of the numbered circles on the map you will see a thumbnail/brief synopsis of the report. These circles are always updated with the most current news reports. Blue circles show news reports from allvoices users, and the reddish circles show news reports that the system has aggregated from reputable news sites. You can filter your news view by choosing 'Contributed News' (i.e. news only from users/citizen reporters) or 'All News' which includes both news from traditional sites/sources and news from allvoices contributors. The buttons are below the regions shown at the bottom of the map.
Have fun using the map!
