The security agreement between Washington and Baghdad was the main headline of the joint press conference between Kurdistan leader Massoud Barazani and Iranian Foreign Minister Manushaher Mottaki. On his first day visit to Iran, Barazani considered that the present draft of the security agreement between Baghdad and Washington does not harm Iraq’s sovereignty adding that the Parliament will have the final decision about the fate of the security agreement.
For his part, Mottaki considered that Iraq’s public opinion and religious authorities’ stands should be taken into consideration regarding the conclusion of the agreement. Mottaki asserted that Iran will pursue support to the Iraqi Government as it did since US Forces entered Iraq.
Barazani arrived to Tehran in a two day visit during which he is due to meet senior Iranian officials mainly President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. Kurdistan leader will discuss in Iran the latest political developments in the country and the stand of Iraq’s Kurds towards the Iraqi-US security agreement.
