Is the Israeli Military Really All That Good?

We have heard over the years that the Israeli military is one of the finest, best trained in all the world. Despite this, they seem to be rather incompetent when you take the results of their actions and weigh them against the claims so many make to presume their objectives. Perhaps if I list a few and the facts on the ground that showing that the Israeli military does not measure up against the claims made about them and their goals.

We are told that Israel has tasked their military to kill mostly civilians, well; at least most of the news I’ve read lately says so. When we check the actual casualties, particularly those casualties in the dead column, we find that over 75% are listed as Hamas fighters and leaders. If the Israeli military is targeting civilians as reported they are doing a really horrible job.

I have read that Israel is conducting a war of genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza. Also reported is that Gaza is among the most heavily populated area on the planet. When figuring in the number of attacks made by the Israeli Air Force, the Israeli Navy, and the IDF tanks, artillery, and ground forces, the numbers of total dead in Gaza is pitifully low for so many attacks made with genocide as the goal. Once again, the vaunted Israeli forces seem to be falling far short of the mark in their performance towards a goal of genocide against the Gazans.

We are told that the Israeli military is using disproportional force in retaliation for the daily rocket attacks that have come out from Gaza. The number bandied around for the total number of rocket attacks since Israel withdrew all forces and settlers from Gaza in 2005 is approximately six thousand. Israel has thus far dropped far less ordinance in total numbers when compared to the total number of rocket and mortar attacks that emanated from Gaza since the pullout by Israel. When comparing total numbers since the separation in 2005, Israeli military actions have claimed fewer civilian casualties than the rocket attacks. The major difference in casualty levels has been the numbers of combatants killed. The Israeli military actions have killed far greater numbers of Hamas fighters, terrorists, leaders, and other personnel than Hamas has killed Israeli soldiers. This is not disproportional, it is called winning a war where the objective is to kill more of the enemy forces than they kill of your forces.

Maybe we need to stop the hysterical, knee jerk, slanderous accusations against the Israeli actions and weigh the actual evidence and numbers and be glad that Israel does not act like they are accused of acting. I am sure if Israel was really attempting to kill and injure as many Palestinians living in Gaza as possible we would be reading about tens of thousands killed in Gaza thus far. Fortunately, Israeli forces are some of the best trained and take great lengths to keep the number of noncombatants injured or killed to a minimum. For those who are screaming and wildly protesting the Israeli goals and methods, perhaps you should stop for a second, take a deep breath, then take a hard look at the facts. I realize that it is easier to simply protest against any defensive action made by Israel than it would be to protest the daily barrages of rockets and mortars launched by Hamas at Israeli civilians. We should be glad that Israeli forces are not guilty of the crimes they are charged with committing. If the Israelis would actually act as they are accused, even for just one day, the number of dead and injured would be horrendously high and there would be real reasons for grief and accusations.

You haven't mentioned that Hamas stockpiles their rockets and other ammunition and weapons in the basements of residential buildings. Not only that, they put their posts and high ranking members in the most populated parts of Gaza City.

"Not only that, they put their posts and high ranking members in the most populated parts of Gaza City."
That may be true, but it is a tactic that anyone would be using (including israel), if they were faced by a vastly superior foe. Similar to the Viet Cong mingling with the civilian population. That is the nature of asymetric warfare. If they just wore uniforms, and kept their fighters in clearly marked bases, they might just as well post big signs syaing "drop your US taxpayer funded bombs here". Hardly a winning strategy do you think? The more inferior your military capabilities the more unconventional your tactics, even if that gets your own civilians killed. In a sense having public outrage over civilian deaths is a propaganda weapon, and thats a substitute to F16 and heavily armoured tanks that the palestinians don't have to defend themselves.

you also forgot to mention that the Israelis are the biggest bunch of liars. How can 75% of those killed be hamas fighters when 40% are schoolchildren? Don't believe everything you hear on mainstream news.

Hey david, this piece of info you gave here is an addition to my knowledge. I was wondering why would Israel be focusing so much on those areas which are so densely populated by the innocent locals but no, the credit goes to the opponents. They are intentionally placing their HQs and weaponry in such places where Israel would think twice before attacking. Just imagine, if we look at it this way then this militant body is actually fighting this war with Israel by using the safety wall of poor innocent Muslims.

This bloodshed cannot be stopped unless both parties decide to stop it! It isn't a one way game and at the end of the day, the victims are the poor Innocent men, women and children who are suffering and dying.

Reparate me for people not respecting the religious devotion of Hamas fighters that use babies as shields, knowing that when they die each baby gets tons of teets to suckle.

If i may OBJECT! Killing 700 people is any less then a genocide? Please consider that we aint living anymore in the age of barbarians. We are living in the age where war is supposedly not the solution to issues. 700 PEOPLE, not insects.

Plus, what comparison is there of Palestinian's Hand made missiles to that of Israel's Gunship Helicopters? The two forces have no comparison.

If the aim here is to protect and guard Israel, why not use some more logic? This aint helping my friend!

If this is the case, then I really do think that the reason behind these recent attacks is to incite and provoke and to get the world's (and not jsut the Muslim world's) attention, rather than anything else.
Either way, it's disgusting and loathsome.

the existence of Israel is not legitimate anyways. simply by its creation the Palestinians were punished for the crimes of the germans during the holocaust. why in the world do you think akmininanajad (iranian pres.) is a holocaust denier??? because they are fucking pissed you took their land for no legitimate reason. yes the holocaust was terrible, yes jews deserve their own country. but why not just give them a big chunk of germany and then only parts of palestine to keep the piece. the bible is so incredibly not a factual, legitimate source to prove land ownership. its just a bunch of myths from fairly recent human history (we are 200,000 years old, the bible is 2,000) no one has any "birth right" to any land. we are all just humans living where we live. I guess we should give back america to the indians cause they were hear first. I wish everyone would acknowledge the fact that the US support of israel is the MAIN REASON we are attacked by terrorists. we pay for Israels planes, bombs, etc. THE US SUPPORT OF ISRAEL WILL LEAD TO THE DOWNFALL OF OUR NATION...IN CATERING TO THE 14 MILLION JEWS IN AMERICA AND THE WORLD WE HAVE ALIENATED THE 1-BILLION STRONG MUSLIM POPULATION. the creation of israel is the worst mistake in the 20th century and will lead to ongoing war and eventually a nuclear exchange, causing massive destruction and death. ISRAELIS, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO THAT LAND, YOU STOLE IT FROM A POPULATION WHO OWNED IT FOR 2,000 YEARS, OF COURSE THEY ARE STILL SHOOTING ROCKETS AND TRYING TO KILL YOU...YOU STOLE ALL THEIR HOMES AND POSSESSIONS AND FORCED THEM TO BE REFUGEES IN OTHER ARAB NATIONS. THE FACT THAT PEOPLE CAN'T MAKE THESE LOGICAL CONNECTIONS IS ABSURD TO ME.

superb bit of agitprop. nevertheless israeli children should put down their deadly weapons of doom and use all that energy to build roads for everyone, not just the 'holy jews', to use.
