Motorola has slipped to fourth position in the global handset race largely due to a failure to follow critical consumer trends such as a preference for touch screens and high speed data links. But it is hoping to win some points by introducing the world's first carbon neutral phone.
The plastic casing of the phone is made entirely from recycled bottles. In addition, Motorola is committed to offsetting carbon produced from the manufacturing processes via equivalent investment in green technologies. The new phone will be sold by T-mobile in the USA.
In addition to this innovation, Motorola is looking to introduce a line of brand new phones in the coming year. This will include a phone with a large touchscreen which looks suspiciously like an iPhone. It is also looking to introduce some more rugged models allowing high speed data transfer, videoconferencing and interconnectivity with other media devices.
