Carol Bartz is Yahoo's new Chief Executive Officer and has already been hailed as an "outsider with attitude" by analysts.
Bartz describes herself as a "straight shooter". The hot seat is not a new experience for her given that she was CEO of Autodesk for a decade starting 1996. Her resume is also burnished with management stints at Intel and Casio. She thus brings technology experience to the table but some analysts have been critical of her limited exposure to media given how central that is to Yahoo's burgeoning strategy. Don't be surprised if she looks to plug that gap by adding complementary leadership to her team.
Most analysts seem to think experience as a CEO is more critical than media experience. There also seems to be approval over the move of replacing Jerry Yang by an outsider.
Shares of Yahoo rose by 25 percent. The change is not significant enough to suggest that there is widespread excitement over the move but there certainly isn't palpable disapproval.
