Nearly 4000 US Marines supported with heavy artillery and helicopter gunships entered the heartland of Afghanistan to neutralize the threats of Taliban before the forthcoming elections. These marines are a part of the 22,000 strong contingent of US Marines dispatched by Barack Obama to Afghanistan. There were 400 Afghan troops also in the group. A curious case of a missing soldier, supposed to have been kidnapped, was reported in the skirmish – while the US side said that the soldier was not on duty when he went missing, the Taliban side said that he was discovered drunk outside his base!
